Re: Suu Kyi elevated to exclusive club of ethnic cleansers (Have Your Say, Oct28)
David Brown notes the irony that Aung San Suu Kyi, who once won a Nobel Peace Prize, is now a mouthpiece for a genocidal government. But as I’ve pointed out before it’s not surprising at all.
Many people believe in “human” rights for those they regard as equal human beings. So they may feel they are totally sincere in saying they are for democracy but don’t care about the rights of the Rohingya, the Palestinians, the blacks and others who in their eyes are not really human.
There are apologists who keep saying Suu Kyi really cares but is powerless to do anything about it. Yet why can’t they see the reality that she chooses to remain in that government and make excuses for what it does?
This is the real Aung San Suu Kyi! She’s is indeed a fighter for freedom for people who look like her and couldn’t care less about the Rohingya. Why is that so hard to understand?
