Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Jammu on Friday demanded immediate deportation of Rohingiya and Bangladeshi Muslims settled in Jammu saying that the business community would otherwise launch an “identify and kill” operation against them.
“The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry (Inc) strongly condemns the statement made by the President Jammu Chamber of Commerce & Industry wherein it threatened to identify, catch and kill Rohingya refugees in Jammu“, a statement issued by KCCI said.
Another Kashmir-based trade organisation, Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA) chairman Muhammad Yasin Khan said if Jammu traders feel unsafe due to Rohingya and Bangladeshi Muslims why were they silent over the issue of West Pakistan refugees.
Khan asked Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who is also Home Minister, to get an FIR registered against Jammu chamber for the statement with murderous intentions. The complaint seeks action as warranted under criminal law against JCCI for spreading terror and threatening peace of Jammu province.
Clarifying that by kill he meant “killing the issue”, Gupta told The Sunday Express, “The settlers can not be allowed to stay as refugees as per Article 370 of the Indian Constitution”. There are around 10,000 Muslim refugees, majority settled in the Hindu-dominated Jammu region of the state. He alleged that the threat to Rohingya and Bangladeshi refugees is actually part of “a deep conspiracy to create communal tension in Jammu region with well crafted goal”.
As per the J&K government’s figures, 5743 Rohingyas are staying in the state for past six years and the police or any other agency has not reported even a single incident of radicalization or their involvement in any militancy related act. “It is high time the people at large shouldered and shared the responsibility of the security forces and dealt with them (the settlers) as the situation demands”. In a veiled attack on the NGOs and individuals facilitating the settlement of Rohginyas in Jammu, Gupta said, “We do not want to enter into a political debate over who settled them but those who did, need to be identified and should be booked”.
“Asking a few thousand of Rohingya Muslims, whose presence in Jammu is protected by United Nations Credentials, to leave Jammu or else they will be identified and killed, is clearly a communal plot, orchestrated at the behest of Saffron Brigade, which deserves to be denounced by one and all, who believe in humanity and appropriate protection deserves to be provided to the Rohingya Muslims and Bangladeshi Nationals living in Jammu, by the state machinery”, the Bar said. However, local groups on the basis of the number of juggies they live in believe their number has crossed 10,000 mark.
At least 5,743 Burmese nationals (Rohingya Muslims) are living in the State at present, J&K government recently announced.
“As per Article 370, they can not be allowed to stay as refugees in J&K”, he said.
